Get ready League fans, because the greatest rivalry that Australian sport has ever known is about to kick back into gear with the start of Holden State of Origin 2013!
This year, the first and third games of the Holden State of Origin series, which pits NSW against QLD, will be contested at ANZ Stadium in Sydney on June 5 2013 and July 17 2013, deep in heart of Blues territory.
If you are planning on attending either of those games then now is the time to start organising your Sydney getaway. To help you out, we’ve put together this handy guide with all the essential information you need to know.
A beginner’s guide to ANZ Stadium
ANZ Stadium is widely considered one of the best stadiums in Australia for watching live sport, and when packed to its maximum capacity of 84,000, generates an atmosphere like no other.
You’ll find the stadium on Edwin Flack Avenue in the Sydney Olympic Park district, about half an hour outside of the Sydney CBD.
Originally built for the 2000 Olympic Games, ANZ Stadium has since hosted some of Australia’s greatest ever sporting events, including every NRL Grand Final since 1999.
Getting to the game
The great part about attending games at ANZ Stadium is that your ticket will entitle you to free public transport on CityRail trains, Sydney Buses and Sydney Ferries, as well as a few other services.
You should definitely take advantage of this opportunity, as traffic will likely be busy and there will be limited parking near the stadium.
All you need to do is show your ticket to the staff as you board the bus, train or ferry and you are on your way. All of the regular services will be running, as well as a few special game-day extra ones as well.
What to bring
Make sure you dress warm, as it will likely get chilly. It might be a good idea to bring an umbrella as well. Most of the seating at ANZ Stadium is covered, but you don’t want to get wet as you make your way to and from the stadium.
There will be plenty of food available inside the stadium, but feel free to bring some homemade snacks as well. You won’t be able to bring alcohol into the venue but will be able to buy it once you are inside.
